Professor of Cognitive Developmental Neuroscience, Usha Goswami, is an expert in child psychology, whose research focuses on language and reading difficulties. Usha, who is scheduled to talk about dyslexia and the brain at this year's Hay Festival, was interviewed by journalist, Eleanor Doughty, in a piece for the Telegraph's education section ahead of her Hay appearance.
In the interview, Usha explains how research has revealed that dyslexia is a language disorder rather than a visual disorder, and that it is not linked to intelligence. Usha describes how parents and carers can offer early remediation to children with dyslexia by exposing them to poetry, singing and music, to help them to match syllable beat patterns to language. She stresses that although early intervention is best, it is never too late to intervene to help children with dyslexia. The interview, published on 9th May 2015, is available to read here:
