The ‘Experience Postgrad Life Sciences programme’ will offer 8-week Summer research placements to second-year undergraduates: Experience Postgrad Life Sciences.
We would like to welcome 15 undergraduate students from underrepresented groups into our research labs to experience the excitement and joy of doing research. We hope to give them the confidence and experience needed to pursue a postgraduate degree in the Life Sciences, at the university of their choice. This is a pioneering programme within the University, with the aim of bringing talented students from diverse backgrounds to Cambridge.
The placements are funded from a number of sources including The Wellcome Trust, BBSRC, and a number of University Partner Institutes and University departments within the Postgraduate School of Life Sciences. The students will receive the Real Living Wage and will be accommodated at Fitzwilliam College, which has generously offered to provide two of its houses for this purpose.

We are looking for:
- a supportive, nurturing environment;
- an understanding that some students may have had limited lab experience;
- a real commitment to continued support, eg. a willingness to provide references for future postgraduate study applications.
The programme will provide accommodation and maintenance stipends to students and will contribute £500 towards research associated costs. Some transferrable skills training and social activities will be organised, though students are expected to spend most working days in the lab.
