Expert in comparative psychology, Professor Nicky Clayton, considers the phenomenon of gift-giving by corvids in an article in the New Scientist, 'Feathered apes who say thanks with shiny trinkets' (published 17 March 2015). One recent story of such gift-giving is that of eight-year old Gabi Mann of Seattle, who receives gifts from the crows she feeds in her garden.

In the New Scientist article, Prof. Clayton writes about how this behaviour may have emerged and also what it tells us about the intelligence of corvids.
