Yara is a PhD Candidate, Lab Manager, and Gates Scholar at the Cambridge Social Decision-Making Lab. Originally from Kyiv, Ukraine, she graduated summa cum laude from New York University with honors double-major in mathematics and psychology. As a PhD candidate co-advised by Sander van der Linden and Jon Roozenbeek, she uses a combination of data science approaches (especially natural language processing and language models) and behavioral experiments to learn more about how, when, and why social media facilitate political division or unity. She also studies social identity biases in AI and susceptibility and resilience to misinformation worldwide.
