Matthew Weatherhead is a PhD student working with the Cambridge Baby Lab, specifically on the Perinatal Imaging in Partnership with Families (PIPKIN) Project. He is supervised by Dr. Sarah Lloyd-Fox and Professor Mark Johnson. Matthew is broadly interested in the effects of early experiences on infant brain and behavior development. More specifically, he is interested in the effects of early pre- and postnatal stress, indexed both by participant questionnaires (psychological) and hair and nail cortisol (physiological), on early infant cognition and behavior. He is funded by the Economic and Social Research Committee (ESRC) of the UKRI.

Prior to Cambridge, Matthew received his undergraduate degree at Princeton University in Psychology (summa cum laude) where he also minored in Neuroscience and Musical Theatre. He worked in the Princeton Baby Lab under Prof. Lauren Emberson and Prof. Casey Lew-Williams, and also completed a fellowship funded by the International Congress of Infant Studies at the ISLAND Lab under Prof. Natalie Brito and Dr. Annie Brandes-Aitken.
