Department of Psychology

Cambridge Cognition, a company associated with the Department of Psychology, was listed on the London Stock Exchange in this past week, its first day of trading being Thursday 18th April.

The company produces computerised neuropsychological tests, including tests used by GPs to detect the onset of dementia, as well as tests used in academic research contexts and pharmaceutical clinical trials.

The tests Cambridge Cognition develops are based on the Cambridge Neuropsychological Test Automated Battery (CANTAB), originally developed by Department of Psychology's Head of Department and Director of the Behavioural and Clinical Neuroscience InstituteProfessor Trevor Robbins, and Professor Barbara Sahakian of the Department of Psychiatry.

CANTAB is an excellent example of how research and development in the academic context can lead to the production of a commercially successful tool that is helping people worldwide.
