Department of Psychology

The acclaimed psychologist Daniel Kahneman, Professor of Psychology and Public Affairs (Emeritus), Senior Scholar (Woodrow Wilson School), and Nobel Laureate in Economic Science, today received an honorary doctorate from the University of Cambridge.  Professor Kahneman, who is the only psychologist to have been awarded the Nobel Prize, had the degree of Doctor of Science honoris causa conferred upon him alongside four other Nobel Prize winners.  Head of Department, Professor Trevor Robbins CBE, and Professor Barry Everitt, attended the ceremony.

Professor Kahneman is renowned for his work on human judgement and decision making, prospect theory, and hedonic psychology.  In 2011 his book, Thinking, Fast and Slow, which describes the two systems that underlie human thinking, was published. This quickly became a best-seller and has won numerous awards.

Professor Kahneman is married to the distinguished psychologist, Anne Treisman FRS, who studied undergraduate psychology at Cambridge in the late 1950s as part of the Natural Sciences Tripos.
