Prof Claire Hughes with Devine, R., Mesman, J. and Blair, C., uncovered how parental autonomy supports and reduces behavioural problems.

Research published in the journal Developmental Science.

The research studies children's temper, known as 'terrible twos', a combination of tantrums and frustration. It supports the fact that children with a non-irritable temperament, and parents with a flexible approach to their learning, have behavioural problems minimised during toddlerhood.

The University of Cambridge research news published about Prof Hughes study. The News piece titled "Terrible twos not inevitable: with engaged parenting, happy babies can become happy toddlers" comments on the published paper and has insights from Claire Hughes.
