Remit

This meeting provides a forum for the discussion of any issues relating to the work of the Department (aside from teaching issues which are delegated to the Teaching Committee). It receives reports and the minutes from all other Committees in the Department and delegates business to these Committees.

Meetings are traditionally held four times a year according to the following schedule;

The Friday before full Michaelmas Term
The Friday before full Lent Term
The Monday after the end of Lent Term
The Monday after the end of Easter Term

Membership

Staff meetings are attended by all academic staff. The Secretary to the Department acts as Secretary for the Meeting. Representatives from other staff groups are invited to attend as observers these include; one member of Assistant Staff (selected annual on a rotation system), the Computer Officer, the Administrator of the BCNI, one Research Assistant/Associate.

Remit

The Graduate Education and Admissions Committee is responsible for all aspects relating to graduate students including admissions, postgraduate training including PhD degrees. It deals specifically with new applications, appointments of Faculty advisors, progress reports, PhD registration, change of supervisor and changes of title, leave to work away, deferment of submission of thesis and financial assistance.

The Committee reports to the Academic Staff Meeting and meets termly.

Remit

The Committee is responsible for the oversight of any safety issues in the Department. It monitors the day to day implementation of the Safety Policy and makes recommendations for change. It receives and discusses information from the University Health and Safety Division and receives feedback related to these issues from staff.

Remit

The Committee is responsible for the provision and oversight of the quality and organisation of all undergraduate teaching in the Department and for all matters relating to undergraduate courses and examinations. The Committee reports decisions to the Academic Staff Meeting.

The Committee meets termly, and additionally at an Annual Teaching Meeting to which all individuals contributing teaching to the Department's courses are also invited to attend. This latter meeting is held on the Friday before full Easter Term commences (approx. mid-April) when the current year's teaching can be reviewed and any changes to the next year discussed.
