Department of Psychology

Research within this theme uses the methods and techniques of experimental psychology and computational modelling to investigate human perception, learning, judgement and decision-making.  Human vision is being investigated using a variety of methods, including genetic analysis and psychophysics. Special topics include movement perception and visual learning. Research in psychoacoustics includes frequency selectivity and masking, loudness perception, timbre perception, and temporal analysis – as well as applications to the remediation of deafness via cochlear transplants. Research on human judgement and decision making focuses on behavioural economics and the processing of time.
