Department of Psychology

A further two of the Department's current MPhil students have been awarded Gates Cambridge Scholarships. A recent news item covered Matthew Samson's award. Matthew Cassels and Jacqueline Davis have also received this prestigious and highly competitive full-cost scholarship to fund their PhD studies in Cambridge.

Jacqueline Davis, who is from Australia, is currently studying for the MPhil in Social and Developmental Psychology under the supervision of Professor Melissa Hines. Jac will continue her research here in the Department, undertaking a PhD in Psychology. Jac's PhD research will investigate competing explanations for gender differences in children's play behaviour.

Matthew Cassels, from Canada, is also studying for the MPhil in Social and Developmental Psychology, and is supervised by Professor Claire Hughes. Matthew will continue on to study for a PhD in Psychiatry. Matthew's MPhil research has examined the impact of the quality of children’s relationships on their social and emotional well-being. Matthew's PhD research will investigate the degree to which self-harm behaviours in adolescents can be predicted by the quality of their attachments to their parents and peers.

These awards are fantastic news - well done Jacqueline and Matthew!
