Professor Nicola Clayton has been invited to deliver a Friday Evening Discourse (FED) at the Royal Institution this autumn.

FEDs, which are intended to promote science and facilitate the dissemination of useful knowledge, were introduced by Michael Faraday (pictured) 186 years ago and, in the intervening period, have been presented by a multitude of distinguished speakers from the sciences and other disciplines.  Previous FED speakers include J.J. Thomson, Nikolaus Pevsner, H.G. Wells and Yehudi Menuhin.  FEDs have become associated with the announcement of significant scientific discoveries, such as the invention of photography and the existence of the fundamental particle.
